ANTHEM TO LIBERTY

ANTHEM TO LIBERTY
LABROS FILIPPOU  |  PERFORMER

WORLD DOG
Forgive me father for I have sinned.
My soul got shallow and I have “spinned”.
Living my life
I lost my mind
I lost my temper
I got anxious
I’m an anxious man
I got sad. I am sad.
Oh God!
Into this world I lost my wisdom
My faith has broken
My voice has sunk
“Deaf I was born
Mute I become”
I wish a one day
I lose my sight
I won’t see happiness
And people’s gods
I wish one a day
I cannot hear
People’s prayers.
So I’ll make mine
My prayer will be false
My hymn will be wrong
It will all be wrong
Human as I am.
Is the world doing something wrong?
Or have I been born by mistake?
Then, it’s it shouldn’t be my fault.
My mother is the sinner.
Forgive her father
For she has sinned
Now, save me. —

LABROS FILIPPOU is a multidisciplinary artist and performer whose aesthetic vision places all forms of art under one roof. Several festivals throughout Europe, but primarily the time he spent in Athens, Greece, were the pivotal leeways for him to delve into theatre, film and singing. Since 2008, he has also been directing and creating his own projects which are interrelated with music, theatre, visual arts and more.

IN THE THEATRE

ANTHEM TO LIBERTY
With concept and direction of him, ANTHEM TO LIBERTY is a performance which is based on excerpts of "Hymn to Liberty". The "Hymn to Liberty" is a poem written by Dionysios Solomos in 1823. In 1865, the first two stanzas officially became the National Anthem of Greece.
In summer of 2013 he directed and performed at ATHENS & EPIDAURUS FESTIVAL 2013.
Music by YIANNEIS.

The critics wrote “Sex-Violence-Guts with the accompaniment of music!” or “The nationalistic fervor drifts, Some of the viewers take part in the violence: The nationalistic hysteria lures them, the National Anthem becomes the means for imposing fascist mentality.” or even “Denunciation of fascism and nationalist exploitation of the nation became clear using quite simple means. The persona of LABROS FILIPPOU during the musical part of the performance also brings to mind “The Wall” of Pink Floyd, which functioned as a clear explanatory intertextual reference”.

IN THE CINEMA
— Where is the money, Labros?
— How would I know? I wasn't his accountant.
— Certainly not, but you could be his collector.

I don't know.
I haven't seen her with anyone.

IN THE MUSIC
YIANNEIS
LABROS FILLIPOU is the frontman and concept director in the music project YIANNEIS since 2009. Their avant-garde live show is part concert, part theatrical performance. They combine the precision of a classical orchestra with the creative chaos of any original punk band. Watch ALL MY CHILDREN. What happens on stage appears to be utterly spontaneous and also conducted in theatrical terms. The audience plays a vital role as they constantly question the limits between the stage and the people.

WORLD DOG
Founded by TILEMACHOS MOUSSAS and LABROS FILIPPOU, WORLD DOG is a music project that deals with world music, baroque opera, drum n' bass, jazz, psychedelia, drone.–
LET ME WEEP is the title of their debut album with the pieces Ti Kako –Greek traditional song from the mountains of Epirus– and Music for a While –baroque opera–, being two of the pivotal anchors in this musical exprerience.

IAVVV
It is a brand new music project featured by more experimental and cinematic elements. COMMON SENSE piece is a part of an upcoming album.
